Description of Character + Environment

The environment for my animation will be an elongated dish with a sharp inclining rim and a steady stream of water gushing in from one side with no apparent source. This design is based on a bath; it is an abstract version of what a bath would seem like to a small bath toy afraid of water. The character is a small unisex rubber chicken, it is a bath toy similar to the common rubber duck, which is in the dish when water starts gushing in. At the start of the film the chicken wakes up or comes alive for the first time, since it doesn’t remember what happened to it before, it doesn’t know it is a floaty-toy, the viewer can interpret this to mean this is a recursive cycle every time a bath is drawn. This is a problem for the chicken since he doesn’t realize he is a rubber bath toy and thus is afraid of the water. During the film the chicken struggles to keep away from the pursuing water, afraid of what will happen, since the chicken is actually a rubber toy and can float this fear is irrational. The chicken shows both determination when trying to stay away form the water, and an irrational phobia of water that could (depending on how the viewer takes it) be because it is afraid of change/new things. The chicken has a simple design with indented wings that aren’t detachable, it is yellow with red painted on features including beak, comb, wattle, wings and tail. The painted features will look slightly imperfect, as if it was hand painted in a factory line, for believability. There are no legs but a small grey circular air valve at the base that vents air and is used to produce the squeak sound emitted when compressed e.g. when jumping.
